Business owner Sabine Schraudolph has successfully applied to the Isles of Scilly Voucher Scheme for funding support to set up of her new café situated in the middle of Hugh Town, aptly named Strudl in Town.
The cafe offers seating for 12-14 people and focuses on selling quality barista coffee’s as well as their signature products of Apple Strudel and freshly baked pretzels. The funding investment has supported the initial set up of the business including major structural improvements such as new windows and doors and electrical rewiring as well as kitchen equipment, furniture and crockery.
Voucher Scheme manager Milena Fallows says ‘This project has been a great fit for our investment, it's a new business and has so far created the provision of at least 2 full time, year round jobs. It’s a clear example of a project which hits plenty of the Outputs we are looking for like job creation and provision of new service, both of which are integral in boosting the resilience of our island economy. It has been great to see the cafe up and running so successfully this summer'
The Voucher Scheme are actively seeking out projects, big or small, that will create sustainable jobs and deliver business growth and can currently support businesses with up to 60% of the total project cost.
The Voucher Scheme is delivered by the Isles of Scilly Council and is funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). It aims to support 80 businesses on the Isles of Scilly with growth projects, and create 17 jobs by 2018.
