St Mary’s Bike Hire have successfully applied to the IOS Voucher Scheme for ERDF funding to enable them to expand their bike hire fleet to include electric bikes and also add an exciting new on line booking system to their website.
The introduction of electric bikes to the St Mary's Bike Hire fleet will mean that exploring the islands by bicycle will be accessible to a whole new sector of customer and with the addition of an on line booking service they hope to be able to offer a convenient, more user friendly service allowing customers to book and pay ahead for their bike hire.
'Receiving IOS Voucher Scheme funding has enabled us to diversify our business. We wouldn’t have bought the electric bikes without the funding and they are proving really popular, especially with our older, less able visitors. The process was very straight forward and we always had the support of the Voucher Scheme team if we weren’t sure about anything.'
'We are looking forward to introducing bike tours which we think is a first Scilly – people can always use an electric bike if they don’t think they will be able to keep up with the rest of the pack! Our new website is now live and the finishing touches are being made to the new online booking system which we hope will be up and running very soon.'
Since receiving the funding the electric bikes have been purchased and are now available for rent along with the rest of the fleet.
Future plans for St Mary’s Bike Hire will include the introduction of guided bike tours later in the season.
